Malawians should brace for prolonged chilly weather conditions

In the statement on weather released on Sunday by the department and signed by its director Jolamu Nkhokwe, currently there is no El Nino and La Nina events which have important consequences for the weather around the globe and are established over the central equatorial Pacific Ocean.

“Most climate model are still projecting that these conditions will persist in next months. It is important to note that El Nino and La Nina are not the only factors that drive global climate patterns including Malawi,” it said.

“Meanwhile, climate scientists from SADC member states are meeting in Botswana to assess the relative impacts of the current sea surface temperature of all global oceans and other locally relevant climate drivers, which are also known to influence climate over Southern Africa including Malawi,” it continued.
