"Plastic pollution rivals the threat of climate change"

Our addiction to plastic packaging could be as harmful to the environment as climate change, experts have warned.

The shocking warning comes as figures have revealed that one million plastic bottles are sold every minute, with the number expecting to rise by 20 per cent by 2021.

And fewer than half of the bottles thrown away last year were recycled, according to alarming figures revealed by the Guardian.
